Quick Search
You have many options to search our database
while at your site. Our site offers you access to over
708,240 titles, both print and software. You may search on keywords
within the author, title, publisher, and subject descriptions in the text
field at the top of each page. You may also select a particular ISBN.
To further refine your search you can define a copyright year
range and select to display either books, new media, or all items. Your
results list is sorted by title but you can change the sort to any of the
six choices listed.
Searching Menu
When searching the database, it's important to
understand how to enter your search criteria. This will determine exactly
what will display and the order in which it is presented to you. As you
look at the search screen from top to bottom, think of it as just three
parts: type, information and sequence. Remember that the more information
you enter in your search criteria, the better the results. If you enter
too little information, your search results list might contain too many
items to be useful.
When you click on the Searching dropdown menu
in the navigation bar, you are presented with a variety of search
options.
The first option is Regular Search. The
information entered in this area of the screen will determine the search
results. The idea is, of course, to narrow the search results list as much
as possible in order to find the item you need. There are four text boxes
where information can be entered: Author/Title/Keyword, Subject, ISBN,
and Publisher. You can also specify the range of Copyright
years. Information entered in the text boxes does not have to be complete,
because this is what is known as a "keyword" search.
For instance, if the only thing you knew about
the book you were looking for was that the word "blood" was in the title,
you would type "blood" in the Title text area and click on "Submit
search". The search would begin on that keyword, and the search results
would include every book in the database that had the word "blood" in its
title. Knowing any other piece of information, such as the author's last
name, would significantly narrow the search and the outcome would be a
much more workable search results list. There may be some instances when
the search routine will insist that you enter more criteria because the
results list is too long .
The screen also allows you to specify media
type, sort sequence, and filter. The filters that we offer on our web page are: Best
Bets, Sizzler, Doody Star Rating, and Brandon-Hill. For more information
on these filters, please click here.
Clicking on Subject Search allows
you to locate the exact subject and choose it for entry in the information
area of the search screen. To use this function, just locate the desired
subject, click on it and you will be brought to the Regular Search screen with the subject filled into its appropriate text box. You
can now adjust your media type, sort sequence, and filter.
Clicking on Publisher Search allows
you to locate the exact publisher and choose it for entry in the
information area of the search screen. To use this function, just locate
the desired publisher, click on it and you will be brought to the
Regular Search screen with the publisher filled into its appropriate
text box. You can now adjust your media type, sort sequence, and
filter.
Clicking on Forthcoming Titles
allows you to select a particular month, and subsequently a subject to
find out the titles that are due to be published during that particular
month.
Search Sequence
This part of the screen allows you to choose
the order in which your search results will display. The default is
Author/Title, but the search results can be sorted
and displayed in
five other sequences. Title will display in book title order.
Subject/Author/Title will display in
subject order. If there is more than one book for a subject, they will be
sorted alphabetically by author and then by title. Subject/Title
will display in subject order and if there is more than one book for a
subject, they will be sorted alphabetically by title.
Publisher/Author/Title will display in publisher order. If there is
more than one book for a publisher, they will be sorted alphabetically by
author and then by title. Publisher/Title will display in publisher
order. If there is more than one book for a publisher, they will be sorted
alphabetically by title.
